07.02.20 Fava Beans

Hot damn these are good! Now, I understand the need for more land if you are going to get serious about feeding your family. I planted three fava bean plants from seed. While we have enjoyed the leaves and flowers along the way, my actual harvest of fava beans is miniscule. There are still a few more to come, but it won’t be more than a small morsel for the 5 members of my family. Nevertheless, I relished the few bites I took of these sautéed fava beans. They are rich, buttery and nutty. To prepare, I removed the seed pod and then, the outer layer of the beans. Those were blanched in boiling water for 2 minutes and passed to ice water immediately. Then they were sautéed in minced garlic and avocado oil for 5 minutes. I added a bit of butter half way through to keep them from sticking to the pan and a dash of salt.
