03.29.20 Natal Plum

Back in the day when I used to walk home from school, I would anticipate natal plum season because their bushes offered a small treat before climbing the final hill to home. They aren’t the sweetest or most delectable fruit but they do have their charm. Let’s face it, these days it’s a good idea to know all of the edibles in your neighborhood. In Southern California they are easy prey as they are routinely used as decorative hedges in front of houses. And, they are often left alone. My daughter Sol made a batch of lime sorbet and I added a few slices of natal plum on top. I did cut the stem and soak them first to release the sap.
